My work begins with pre-written stories, texts, and music; and ends with a complete unknowing, an unravelling of what was thought we had.
I layer movement and raw approaches to pre-made theatrical material, often finding new meanings, and questions about the work, the writers, and myself. I interpret lyrics, rhythms, and melodic structures through the body intersecting with themes of identity and representation. The choreography becomes a larger part of a pre-written puzzle that through collaboration evolves into a completed work.
My choreographic choices stem from a fascination with cognitive science, philosophy, genetics, film making, and technology. I am incredibly curious about our mental processes and how that manifests in the body through physical intimacy, body language and kinesthetic empathy. Interfacing with technology I am able to investigate the lines between experience and data. This research provides a much needed grounding that allows me to explore ephemeral and abstract moments with a sense of direction.
